Gallery FAQ.

The fair runs from 8–11 April 2027. (Preview & Opening on 8 April 2027).

The online application period opens on 1 September 2026 and closes on 28 October 2026.

Galleries will be notified of acceptance or rejection by email one month after the application deadline, towards the end of November 2026.

Galleries placed on the waiting list will be notified and may be asked to submit an updated or new booth concept. By mid-January 2027 they will learn whether their updated or new concept has been approved by the jury.

At the time of application, galleries must be able to demonstrate one year of continuous gallery activity. They must also keep regular opening hours of at least 18 hours per week in their own premises, with an ongoing exhibition programme (at least 3–4 exhibitions per year).

Artists (without gallery representation), art consultants, art advisory firms, online galleries, and vendors of replicas and reproductions, art derivatives, calendars, posters, postcards, etc. Auction houses may present special projects (e.g. estates) under certain conditions, provided the works are intended for presentation only and not for sale.

Yes, galleries may apply for up to two sections at the same time.

Art Düsseldorf's artistic vision is to establish the fair increasingly as a curated format. For this reason, Art Düsseldorf develops three new, relevant themes each year that take up current tendencies and discourses in contemporary art. Galleries have the option of choosing one of these themes as the curatorial starting point for the design of their booth. Participation is optional. For 2027, galleries may select a maximum of one theme. The Power of Words Artistic works engaging with language, writing, text, voice or AI-generated speech. Moving between text-based art, the spoken word and decolonial perspectives, the work of the submitted artists examines how language shapes perception, reveals structures of power and opens up new forms of expression. Material Revisited In an increasingly digital world, craft and materiality are taking on new significance in contemporary art. Artists work with natural, recycled and innovative materials, combining traditional techniques with current social and ecological questions. This deliberate return to craft, textile, ceramics, wood, glass and other material processes offers a counterpoint to virtual and algorithmic image worlds, standing for presence and the immediate experience of art. The material is not merely the vehicle for an idea but its starting point. In working with it, a way of thinking emerges that unfolds within the work itself. Roots and Identities Across generations, artists engage with questions of identity, origin and belonging. While older generations often reflect on personal, cultural or geographical roots, the younger generation expands these perspectives to include the influences of a globally networked and digital world. Personal experience, family histories and cultural heritage meet new forms of community and self-understanding. We invite works that connect past and present and show how identity continues to evolve without losing its roots.

Galleries applying to the Next section may present a maximum of 3 artists. When applying for the Next+ section, a maximum of 4 artists may be featured. For the Main section, we recommend a rule of thumb of 1 artist per 10 sqm. For the Paper section there is no limit – this depends on the concept submitted.

Galleries applying to Art Düsseldorf for the first time are required to submit a short booth concept text and a booth sketch. The same applies to all galleries taking up one of the three themes. In general, we recommend that all galleries upload and submit a short booth concept text and a booth sketch, as this is very helpful for our jury as well as for our press and marketing team. The application form also asks for general information about the gallery and sample images of works by the artists to be shown at the fair. (File size: PDF max. 2 MB, JPG/PNG max. 4 MB). Applications may be written in either German or English. *New: The new application site includes an integrated booth designer that lets you create a sketch of your booth easily, in just a few minutes.

A specialist jury of international gallerists decides on the selection of galleries. The 2027 jury consists of: Leonie Chelsea Lang (Leap Art Foundation), Thomas Krinzinger (Krinzinger), Jonas Kriszeleit (Esther Schipper), Linn Lühn (Linn Lühn), Max Mayer (Galerie Max Mayer), Alexander Sies (Sies + Höke), Julius Woeste (Petrine).

The jury for Art Düsseldorf 2027 has been confirmed and will review the gallery applications for the 2027 edition, ensuring an exciting and diverse selection of contemporary art. The jury members are: Leonie Chelsea Lang (Leap Art Foundation), Thomas Krinzinger (Krinzinger), Jonas Kriszeleit (Esther Schipper), Linn Lühn (Linn Lühn), Max Mayer (Galerie Max Mayer), Alexander Sies (Sies + Höke), Julius Woeste (Petrine).

Applications are accepted exclusively online via the application form on the Art Düsseldorf website. After a short registration you can fill in the application documents, save them as a draft and submit them once all mandatory fields are complete. As a rule this takes no longer than 20–25 minutes (excluding the short booth concept text).

The registration fee is 450 euros and is non-refundable. Registration for Art Düsseldorf 2027 is binding.
