The fair takes place from April 8-11, 2027.

Applications open on September 1, 2026 and close on October 28, 2026.

Notifications of acceptance or rejection will be sent to galleries 1 month later around end of November 2026.

Galleries placed on the waiting list will be informed and might need to submit an updated or new booth concept. They will be informed by mid-January 2027 whether their updated/new concept has been admitted by the jury.

To be eligible to apply, galleries must have been operating continuously for at least one year. They must also have regular opening hours of at least 18 hours per week in their own premises with continuous exhibition projects (at least three to four exhibitions per year).

 

The fair is not open to individual artists without gallery representation, art advisors, art consultancy firms, online galleries, or providers of reproductions, replicas, art merchandise, calendars, posters, postcards, etc.

Auction houses may, under certain conditions, present themselves with special projects (e.g. estates) if they are not intended for sale but only for presentation.

Yes, galleries may apply for up to two sections at the same time.

Art Düsseldorf’s artistic vision is to increasingly establish the fair as a curated event. For this reason, Art Düsseldorf develops three new, relevant themes each year that address current trends and discourses in contemporary art.

Galleries have the opportunity to choose one of these themes as a curatorial starting point for designing their exhibition booths.
Participation is, of course, optional. Galleries may select no more than one theme for 2027.

The topics for 2027 are:

1. The Power of Words: Artworks that explore language, writing, text, voice, or AI-generated language. At the intersection of text art, the spoken word, and decolonial perspectives, the art of the participating artist(s) examines how language shapes perception, reveals power structures, and opens up new forms of expression.
2. Material Revisited: In an increasingly digital world, craftsmanship and materiality are taking on new significance in contemporary art. Artists work with natural, recycled, and innovative materials, combining traditional techniques with current social and environmental issues. The deliberate return to craftsmanship, textiles, ceramics, wood, glass, and other material processes provides a counterpoint to virtual and algorithmic visual worlds and embodies presence and the direct experience of art. The material is not merely a vehicle for an idea, but its starting point. Engaging with it gives rise to a way of thinking that unfolds within the work.
3. Roots and Identities: For generations, artists have explored questions of identity, origin, and belonging. While older generations often reflect on personal, cultural, or geographic roots, the younger generation expands these perspectives to include the influences of a globally connected and digital world. Personal experiences, family histories, and cultural heritage intersect with new forms of community and self-identity. The selection will feature works that bridge the past and the present and demonstrate how identity is constantly evolving without losing its roots.

Galleries applying for the NEXT and NEXT+ section may present a maximum of three artists.

For the MAIN sections, we recommend the general rule of thumb of 1 artist per 10 sqm.

For the PAPER section there is no limit – depending on the submitted concept.

For galleries applying to Art Düsseldorf for the first time, a short booth concept and a booth sketch* is required.

This requirement also applies to all galleries that choose one of the three themes.

 In general, we recommend all galleries to submit a short booth concept* and upload a booth sketch since this is very helpful not only for our jury but also for our press and marketing team.

The application form furthermore asks for general gallery information and exemplary supporting images of artworks by the artist(s) to be shown at the fair. (Files size: PDF maximum 2MB, JPG/PNG maximum 4MB).

Applications can be written in either DE or EN.

An independent Jury of international gallery owners will review all applications and make the final selection
